Ken Fahey 1972 - 2007
Ken Fahey was on the crew in 2006. He emerged quickly as a natural leader on the crew that year and showed all of us how things should be done, and with a smile. Ken worked hard, was an outstanding firefighter and loved his job. He was also a family man and good friend to many of us. He had been with the USFS for 6 years.

He had a heck of a lucky streak; we used to call him "First Load Fahey" because he got out to so many fires.
We had a great season with Ken and were looking forward to having him back on the crew in 2007.

On January 25, 2007 Ken lost his life in a traffic accident while on duty in Cordesville, South Carolina. His presence on the crew is still missed by those who knew him, and we share what we knew about him with the rookies every year. We were lucky to know him, if even for such a short time.

We celebrate Ken's life by running in the "K10k" or "Ken's Ten", a memorial 10k run each spring. It gives us an opportunity to remember a good friend. We look forward to having past crewmembers join us for future runs in Ken's honor. It's an unofficial course, and to call it only 10k is a bit of a stretch, but Ken would have wanted it that way...

We are always thinking about future K10k's, so please give a call if you are interested in joining us.

Thomas 'TJ' Marovich 1989 - 2009
Thomas Marovich was working on the Chester Helitack Crew out of the Lassen National Forest in 2009, a second year USFS Apprentice from the Modoc. His dedication to firefighting seemed limitless. He had been volunteering on a department since he was 17 and was a registered EMT by 18. Those who knew him recognized his passion for the job and his leadership abilities right away.

Tom lost his life during rappel operations near Backbone Helibase while assigned to the Backbone Fire near Willow Creek, California in the Trinity Alps Wilderness on July 21, 2009.

Tom followed in the footsteps of his father, a 32 year veteran of the Foster City, CA Police Department, where fire and police services were combined. Tom was known as someone who had fire in his blood from childhood, and the entire fire community sharply mourns his loss.
